Library Staff Protest Cuts to Services
State Library Victoria staff walked off the job today to protest Bracks government plans to cut services provided by Victorian community network Vicnet.

Victorians are set to lose a vital community service when 30 jobs are cut at Vicnet in June.

100 CPSU members representing all sections of State Library Victoria met to vote on the following motions

  • This meeting of the CPSU SLV Branch condemns the unethical and biased staff cuts at Vicnet as unfair, unwarranted and in breach of the EPA and Section 298K of the Workplace Relations Act.
  • This meeting of the CPSU SLV Branch calls upon management to actively seek funding (externally or from recurrent budget) to maintain Vicnets future and delivery of services to the community.
  • We the State Library of Victoria (SLV) CPSU members authorise CPSU head office to inform the VTHC, ACTU and relevant government entities of the actions of SLV management and ask for their assistance in fighting the actions of SLV.

This meeting of the CPSU SLV resolves to mount a campaign against the staff cuts including but not limited to:

  • actions in the IRC over breaches of the EPA and discrimination against union members under s298K
  • media campaign
  • industrial action”

The motions were passed unanimously.
