CPSU in conjunction with SGE Credit Union provides a tertiary scholarship program and will award $750 per annum to support those members and their families attempting a suitable tertiary course with a demonstrated need.

A scholarship will be awarded in one of two categories and a total amount of $750 each year for a maximum of 3 years will be awarded for each category.

 
A SCHOLARSHIP FOR MEMBERS' CHILDREN
Assessment Criteria:

  1. The parent must have been a financial member of CPSU for at least the past 2 years.
  2. Applicant must be 25 years or younger.
  3. Must be enrolled in a tertiary course approved by the CPSU.
  4. Additional consideration will be given to candidates who undertake a course, which includes units related to union interests, e.g. Industrial Relations, Politics, Dispute Resolution, Psychology, Sociology as detailed in the course outline.
  5. Preference will be given to applicants who do not currently hold another scholarship.
  6. To maintain the scholarship, proof of satisfactory completion of each academic year must be forwarded to the CPSU. Where progress has not been satisfactory, consideration may be given to exceptional circumstances affecting progress.
  7. Applications should include, in addition to personal details and proof of enrolment:
  • Written essay (maximum 500 words) outlining what it would mean to win the scholarship (or an equivalent submission in another media form)
  • Any supporting evidence, i.e. references from teachers or other community leaders, activities in community services, political groups, demonstration of willingness to complete the course.

  • Application forms should be marked PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL and submitted to the CPSU by Wednesday 26th March 2008.
  • Applicants will need to provide proof of CPSU membership, a completed enrolment form from an approved Victorian tertiary institution, a copy of the course guide to demonstrate the relevance of the subjects’ chosen to union issues, personal application with personal details plus an essay of no more than 500 words (or equivalent) and any other supporting evidence.
